Long Beach Man Arrest
A Long Beach man who stabbed his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in San Pedro and took their 1-year-old son to the Mexican border, where he was arrested, was found guilty Friday of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, prosecutors said. Jurors in Superior Court in downtown Los Angeles found Giovany Santiago-Enriquez not guilty of burglary, kidnapping and child custody deprivation. Santiago-Enriquez, on trial since Monday, entered his former girlfriend’s bedroom at 15th Street and Grand Avenue at 1:30 a.m. March 9, 2015. His son, Jayden Santiago, whom he had cared for throughout the day, was in his car outside, authorities said. Santiago-Enriquez stabbed the new boyfriend, Alejandro Varela, six times in the body and three times in the head, and took off with the boy, police said. After an Amber Alert was issued, they were located in Tijuana. The boy’s mother, Christy Martinez, was then reunited with her son, who was unhurt.
